lyrics

Mohawks built the Empire state, back in ‘32
No fear of falling, no fear of fear it’s true
They were one not two not three or four or more
Some say it was a funnel cloud that just got in his way
Some say it was Excedrin and a cheerful Cabernet
When her father fell he went not down but up into the sky
They never found his body some say they saw him fly
But nothing really matters but the space between the black and white
No book or song or telephone will gather your insight
No captive eyes, cloudless haze, sunstroke heat has filled his gaze
In 1964 befriended by a Gray
But François saw it happen and he lives until this day
He says it wasn’t wind or wine but something sort of gray
Yeah François saw it happen and he lives until this day
We are like ceramic tiles that crush beneath the cleat
We are only cattle being herded for our meat, like B-movie goers fighting for our seat
A drummer in a metal band searchin’ for the beat
Like static in the atmosphere that shocks our fingertips
Like rodents in the cold blue rain monks feed on poker chips
Do ashes that were once a fire walk hand in hand with flame
Or do they now believe the solemn ground is where they came
Will the loneliness I can’t explain ever leave me be
Am I looking at my happiness too subjectively?
All I know is all I know and all I know is this
That which can’t be firmly held is nothing to be missed
